  • 1)        How does the phenotype and physiology of human lung phagocyte impact Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) survival and growth and how can that knowledge translate into a systematic approach to control tuberculosis (TB) disease progression through the use of host-directed therapeutics (HDT)?

    2)         How does HIV-1 modulate cell death and/or survival pathways to persist in infected human macrophages and can we leverage that understanding to inform HIV-1 eradication and cure strategies?

    3)    What are the drivers and immune mechanisms that underlie HIV-1-associated cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease (CVD/CBD) and how can this knowledge translate into strategies to reduce HIV-associated vascular diseases?
