Marah Chibwana Awarded the Rhodes Ph.D. Scholarship

Mentored by Dr. Kondwani Jambo and Professor Henry Mwandumba since July 2018, Marah works in the Infection and Immunity Research Group, formerly known as the Viral Immunology group. Her work for the past two years has focused on the longevity and dynamics of the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 following natural infection and the subsequent effect of the COVID-19 vaccination. Marah finds the MLW training environment as one that has inspired her to dream big and not limit herself, hence her achievements in her career so far. “I have been privileged to work with mentors who have opened doors for me and offered me opportunities to realize my potential”.

We celebrate Marah as she has been awarded a scholarship by the Rhodes Trust, the oldest international postgraduate scholarship in the world (119 years old). The award will fund her Doctor of Philosophy studies for three years at the University of Oxford.

When asked about her reaction to this achievement, Marah had this to say, “I feel very honoured to be selected as a Rhodes Scholar, and I am excited to be returning to Oxford after just having completed my master’s degree there. I am truly grateful for the support that I have received from MLW, this award is a testament to the excellent training environment at MLW “.

Keep soaring Marah, we are proud of you!!!
