2023 Field Research Assistants Day

Friday the 17th of November 2023 was a colorful day as we celebrated and honored Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme Field Research Assistants.  The theme for this year’s event was ‘Building Strong Field Research Assistants Brand’. Every year, the event is organized to honor Field Research Assistants dedication to communities and MLW mission of conducting Excellent health research to benefit health. FRAs have always been a critical foundation of the Health Research Work at MLW. The event took place at 4 petals garden in Mpemba. Lindiwe Mafuleka who is the head of Communications and public engagement, and Brian Ngwira the Clinical Research Support Unit (CRSU) lead graced the event with their presence and motivational speeches. In her remarks, Lindiwe Mafuleka recommended the good work that FRAs are doing in their respective studies. She also urged all FRAs to be involved during all Continuous Professional Development sessions to enhance their skills and knowledge about MLW health research work.

CRSU lead, Brian Ngwira also talked about research integrity, encouraging the research assistants to practice good ethical research. He advocated for values of honesty, accuracy, efficiency, and objectivity to ensure that the ways they conduct and analyze research meet research integrity requirements.

To encourage and motivate the FRA’s to work hard and put effort in their professional development, Wezi Nyapigoti shared his career trajectory. He narrated his story of how he started as an enumerator and ended up as a Principal Investigator for Compensation and Benefits Study at MLW. He encouraged the FRAs to be dedicated, passionate, creative, and take keen interest to upgrade their studies whenever possible.

An award for FRA of the year was arranged to recognize Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme Field Research Assistant who has demonstrated integrity and a strong commitment to the mission and values of Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme. Steven Lanken was voted as FRA of the year by his fellow FRAs. Lanken walked away with a beautiful trophy engraved with his name.

The day was also filled with fun activities like magic tricks by George Jeff, tag of war, sack race and catch a stick.
