Malaria Epidemiology

Donnie Mategula, Medical Epidemiologist


I am a medical doctor, epidemiologist and public health expert contributing to research, implementation and practice of health interventions that reduce high burden diseases in Africa. I have a special interest in infectious diseases, particularly malaria, HIV, tuberculosis and vaccine-preventable diseases; with a focus on identifying transmission reduction strategies, targeted control approaches and use of effective surveillance and monitoring tools . I have diverse expertise, experience and skills that include :1) design, running and analysis of epidemiological studies 2) running and evaluation of large public health programs 3) writing of grants, strategic plans, reports and academic publications and 4) Provision of relevant technical advice to national and regional bodies. I am hosted within the Malaria epidemiology group at Malawi-Liverpool Wellcome Clinical Research Programme.
