Chimwemwe Mhango is Masters student under the Virology Research Group at MLW. He is currently enrolled at the University of Malawi, College of Medicine where he is studying Bioinformatics. His interests lie in Molecular Biology where he has been characterizing rotavirus strains circulating in Malawi. His current work is on evolutionary mechanisms that led to the reemergence of new rotavirus strains and how these strains are related to similar strains emerging in other African countries.
Chimwemwe obtained his Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences in 2017 from the University of Malawi, College of medicine. He was one of the recipients of the MLW/COM undergraduate research grants in 2017.
Chimwemwe’s long term goal is to become an expert in viral evolution and viral pathology. He wants to understand the impact of viral evolution on the pathology of viruses.
