Job Description
The Malawi – Liverpool – Wellcome – Research Programme (MLW) (http://www.mlw.mw) is an internationally recognized centre for research and training, funded by the Wellcome Trust in collaboration with our key partners, the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KuHes), Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and University of Liverpool (UoL) among others. Job Purpose:
To provide clinical oversight and coordinate research activities for the CLEAR-TB study, ensuring participant safety, protocol compliance, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and high-quality clinical data collection. The role supports research to identify resistance-associated mutations to the BPaL(M) regimen in rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis using whole genome sequencing, generating evidence to strengthen drug-resistant TB surveillance, guide future treatment strategies, and support tuberculosis control efforts in Malawi. The post holder will ensure the study is conducted in accordance with the approved protocol, sponsor requirements and all applicable regulatory and ethical guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Take initiative in identifying and dealing with challenges in the conduct of complex clinical trials and other studies. Report on problems and planning of restorative action and its outcome to the line manager.
- Maintain personal safety and hygiene by wearing clean protective clothing, as per uniform code and always maintain Good Infection Control practices.
- Promote equality of opportunity and inclusive practice in all aspects of work undertaken.
- Act in a manner that safeguards vulnerable population as applicable to the role.
- Understand and adhere to MLW and the Gateway Clinic policies and procedures.
- To work according to research protocols (SOPs) set out by the project.
- To maintain confidentiality of client’s records and respect patients and guardians privacy and rights.
- Work with minimal supervision of the study, effectively managing your own time.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent medical degree recognised by the Medical Council of Malawi.
- Full registration and licence to practise Medicine in Malawi.
- Experience working in clinical research or clinical trials.
- Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) certification.
- Experience in diagnosis and management of tuberculosis, infectious diseases or internal medicine will be an added advantage.
- Excellent clinical assessment and documentation skills.
