Marumbo Eve Chirwa

Research Assistant

Marumbo Eve Chirwa is a nurse and public health researcher with a Master’s degree in Public Health and experience in both qualitative and quantitative research. Her research experience spans clinical trials, community-based research, and health systems research, with a particular interest in understanding how social, behavioural and health-system factors influence health outcomes.

She is currently a Research Assistant with the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Research Programme, working on the Opt-AMR study, which focuses on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), antibiotic use and quality of care within local health systems in Malawi. Her work within the Social Science Group involves exploring community and healthcare-provider perspectives, behaviours and decision-making around antibiotic use and AMR.

She has co-authored publications in several peer reviewed journals including Assessing Facilitators and Barriers to Referral of Children Under the Age of Five Years at Ndirande Health Centre in Blantyre, Malawi and  Effect of dihydroartemisinin/piperaquine for Malaria intermittent preventive treatment on dolutegravir exposure in pregnant women living with HIV.
