Luke Manja’s GHBN-supported project is a multi-site qualitative study titled “Exploring Pupils’ Ethical Awareness of Climate Change and Health Interventions in Kenya and Malawi.” The study investigates how pupils aged 10–13 perceive ethical issues arising from climate and health interventions, especially those related to disaster response, environmental protection, and intergenerational justice.

In Malawi, the study engages 150 pupils from science and environmental clubs across five primary schools in Blantyre and Chikhwawa. Using participatory arts-based methods—including storytelling, role plays, and drawing, Luke and his team aim to spark ethical reflection rooted in Umunthu, a pan-African philosophy that emphasizes humanity, compassion, and collective well-being.

The project will culminate in a creative symposium where pupils present their solutions to local climate challenges, followed by focus group discussions to evaluate the effectiveness of the participatory approach and the use of indigenous ethical frameworks.
