Engaging Stakeholders to co-design a dried spot kit for the diagnosis of central nervous system infections in low-resource settings

Timely diagnosis of central nervous systems (CNS) infection remains challenging in low- and middle-income countries due to poor laboratory infrastructure, lack of cold chain systems and reliable electricity. Dried spot technology offers a promising fit for purpose alternative by enabling collection, storage and transportation of clinical specimens for the diagnosis of meningitis. This formative mixed-method study was conducted to explore end-users’ needs and requirements for the development of the Dred Spot Kit. By actively engaging end users and diagnostic tool developers, we gained insights into specific features, functionalities, and performance criteria that the diagnostic tool must meet.
