On 20th March, the Malawi Accelerated Research in Vaccines by Experimental and Laboratory Systems (MARVELS) team marked an important milestone in the progress of PnuBioVax (PBV) CHIM study, highlighting significant achievements in both participant recruitment and study completion.
The study has successfully recruited 250 participants out of the targeted 416. This milestone reflects the dedication of the study team, the effectiveness of recruitment strategies, the trust and willingness of participants to contribute to research aimed at improving understanding of pneumococcal vaccines and informing public health interventions. As highlighted during the celebration, Anthony commended the team, describing it as a “robust team” whose efforts have driven this progress.
In addition to recruitment progress, 74 participants have successfully completed and exited the study. This achievement underscores the strength of the study’s follow-up systems, adherence to protocols and the commitment to maintaining high standards of participant care throughout the study period.
The milestone celebration provided an opportunity for the team to reflect on the journey so far, acknowledging the collaborative effort required across clinical, laboratory and administrative teams. It also served as a moment to recognize the critical role played by study participants, whose involvement remains central to the success of the research. Anthony further emphasized the importance of teamwork, noting the “great team collaboration” that has been central to reaching this stage.
As the study progresses, the team remains focused on achieving the full recruitment target and ensuring successful completion for all enrolled participants. Continued commitment to quality, ethical conduct and participant engagement will remain at the forefront of all study activities.
The PBV CHIM team extends sincere appreciation to all participants, staff and stakeholders who have contributed to reaching this milestone. Their collective efforts are instrumental in advancing research that has the potential to impact health outcomes both locally and globally.
This milestone not only reflects progress made but also reinforces the team’s dedication to achieving the study’s overall objectives.
