BCUC was grounded in the growing recognition of the importance of engaging decision-makers and the wider public in genomics-related research. The project responded to persistent challenges in understanding and interpreting complex genomics information, which limited its effective use in policy and practice.

The study aimed to improve understanding of genomics concepts and to build the capacity of selected purveyors of information to access, interpret, and communicate genomics evidence accurately and effectively.
