Dr Deborah Nyirenda is a social scientist with extensive experience in global health research. She leads the Community Engagement and Bioethics Research Group at Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Research Programme (MLW) and serves as Lecturer at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), where she teaches Qualitative Research Methods in Global Health. 

Deborah is recipient of the prestigious Wellcome Career Development Award and serves as the Malawi country lead for the Global Health Bioethics Network. Her research focuses on strengthening community engagement in global health research and co‑designing community‑led interventions in the areas of climate change and health, vaccines, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Deborah is leading social science, risk communication and community engagement research components in multi-disciplinary research collaborations including the NIHR Global Health Research Groups on Gastrointestinal Infections and Vaccines to Control Respiratory Pathogens and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Africa.
