This research focuses on the implementation and evaluation of a laboratory information management system (LIMS) to improve the use of microbiology and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) data in clinical care. In many low-resource settings, limited access to timely and reliable laboratory data constrains clinical decision-making and contributes to inappropriate antibiotic use.

The SEDRI-LIMS programme introduces an open-source, configurable system designed to strengthen data management, improve access to culture and antimicrobial susceptibility results, and support clinical and surveillance functions. Using an implementation science approach, the study examines how LIMS can be effectively integrated into routine practice, including its impact on clinical workflows, decision-making, and patient outcomes.

Findings will inform scale-up strategies and contribute to strengthening AMR surveillance and stewardship within health systems. This multi-country study (2025–2028) is funded by Wellcome.
