Improving Hospital care of patients with critical illness through HDRU

In March 2020, the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Program (MLW) opened a High Dependency Respiratory Unit (HDRU) to offer specialist care to critically ill adult patients. This included designing and renovating the ward space; establishing guidelines, pathways and procedures; workforce training and developing clinical information systems. The unit is based at the public referral hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital located in Blantyre.

Senior clinical lecturer and honorary consultant in critical care medicine Dr. Ben Morton and others  share in this article here published in the British Medical Journal about the work that went into opening the unit.
