Over fifty MLW staff underwent First Aid Training at National Bank Money Men Learning Centre in Blantyre.
The two-day First Aid Training which rolled out on 25 March 2023 was completed on 26 March 2023. This training was facilitated by St Johns First Aid Trainers and equipped MLW staff with basic lifesaving skills useful during emergencies.
Speaking during the training, one of the attendees Nicholas Mwenda said using real-life examples relevant to first-aid, staff were able to measure their capabilities to minimize risk and save lives during emergencies and life-threatening accidents.
“I am pleased to say I am able to do something proactive that would benefit my workplace and neighborhood in deadly situations” Mwenda explained.
The first aid training program covered basic first aid techniques such as CPR, wound management, and handling of fractures, snake bites, burns, and choking incidents. The attendees received internationally recognized certificates from licensed professionals.
“We believe that providing first aid training to our staff is a very important step towards building a safer and lively MLW,” said Wezzie Gondwe, one of the organizers.
The programme has received positive feedback from staff, with many expressing their gratitude for the opportunity to learn lifesaving skills. Most of the trained staff expressed their interest to volunteer as first aiders in their respective homes, churches, and neighborhoods.
“What MLW has done for its staff is commendable. We encourage people to take advantage of such opportunity to learn first aid skills that can help save lives in emergency situations,” A trainer from St John First Aiders Fred Jemester said. “Together, we can make our communities a safer place to live in.”
