To equip Field Research Assistants (FRAs) with the necessary knowledge and skills in research , MLW’s Communications and Public Engagement Department conducted a training in qualitative research as part of Professional Development (CPD) training on 18 August 2023.
At this training, 50 FRAs were trained in ethnography, case studies, in-depth interviews, and narrative research by Blessings Kapumba from the Community Engagement and Bioethics Associate Research Group. The FRAs appreciated the topics that were covered and expressed that this training was beneficial to their career growth as it exposed them to other research methods that they could apply in their daily research activities.
Acting Community Engagement Coordinator Yamikani Dickson remarked that FRAs undertake CPD sessions to ensure that MLW health research standards are kept high and consistent.
“These CPD sessions act as a refresher and also as an enhancement of the knowledge and skills for FRAs, benefiting them, their fields of research, and MLW at large. As a center of excellent health research, it is of great importance to have sessions like these,” said Dickson.
The next CPD session is expected to take place later in the year focusing on Health and Safety in Field work.
