QECH Diagnostic Radiographers Graduate Through the MLW Scholarship

Robert Saizi and McDonald Scott are dedicated Diagnostic Radiographers who currently serve at the Radiology Department of Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH). In 2021, through a competitive process, MLW awarded them full scholarships to undertake a 2-year mature entry Bachelor of Science (Hons) programme in Diagnostic Radiography at the University of Ghana.

The knowledge and skills they acquired during the programme perfectly align with their career aspirations. Robert aims to specialize in Computed Tomography, while McDonald intends to focus on Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Their programme focused on both general radiography and advanced medical imaging such MRI, CT, Mammogram, Dexa, Lodox, and Interventional radiography, to name a few.

These cutting-edge imaging modalities are relatively novel in Malawi. The acquired expertise, including proficiency in various emerging imaging modalities will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in improving the radiology services offered at the QECH. It is worth noting that both students have excelled in their studies, earning First-Class distinctions, and received individual awards for their outstanding achievements.

Their expertise will go a long way to contributing to the Radiology department in providing high-standard services and cascading the skills and knowledge to colleagues for a collective benefit. In enhancing collaboration between MLW and QECH and cultivating and nurturing talent, MLW funded Robert and McDonald through the CORE Radiology budget. MLW supports the Diagnostics Imaging Steering Committee (DISC), which collaborates with researchers implementing studies with a radiology component.

You raised the flag high McDonald and Robert; we wish you well with skills transfer and implementation.
