Traditional Authority Mwambo hails MLW for drama trainings

Traditional Authority Mwambo has described Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme’s Umoyo N’kukambirana Radio Listening Club drama trainings as a central tool in fighting health challenges in his area.

The traditional leaders made the remarks on the sidelines of a two-day drama training that took place on 1 and 2 February which targeted Mwambo Youth Organisation, an Umoyo N’kukambirana Radio Listening Club,  in his area.

T/A Mwambo said, “I am happy with the training that has taken place it will help in improving health standards in my area, especially in fighting maternal and neonatal problems that are now prominent.”

He said the maternal and neonatal challenges have reached a worrisome stage in his area as most of the women are delivering in their homes and some on their way to health facilities thus endangering the woman and expected baby’s lives.

The Director of Mwambo Youth Organisation William Chilomoni said the skills-set gained during the training will help the youth club to deliver relevant and right messages for both existing and emerging diseases affecting their communities.

Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Programme’s Communications and Policy Engagement Coordinator Pauline Hellen Mlogeni pointed out that Umoyo N’kukambirana drama trainings are largely aimed at expanding the Umoyo N’kukambirana Radio Listening Club’s capacity in drama which is  central in disseminating various health messages in their respective areas.

“We saw an opportunity to train our partners specifically Radio Listening Clubs (RLCs) on how to create good drama, poetry, and songs in passing effective health messages. These trainings are also vital in keeping them (RLCs) abreast with constantly advancing knowledge and skills,” said Mlogeni.
