Overview
Over 3.6 billion people globally are living in highly vulnerable conditions due to climate shocks. Low and middle-income countries have been experiencing severe climate shocks despite producing little carbon emissions.
Effects of climate change gravely affect the most vulnerable people in low- and middle-income settings due to poor resilience and adaptation to climate shocks, poor infrastructures and lack of financial resources.
In 2024, Malawi was heavily affected by tropical cyclone Freddy which led to the death of over 1,200 people, displacement, injuries, and damage to infrastructure and systems offering essential health services.
Through this project, we aim to understand communities’ experiences of effects of climate change on health post cyclone Freddy. The project also aims to promote community-led dialogues amongst communities, policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders on identified community priority interventions. This is expected to in turn lead to the implementation of community-led interventions aimed to promote awareness of climate and health.
