Job Description

Introduction

The Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome (MLW) Programme (https://www.mlw.mw) is an internationally recognized centre for research and research training, funded by the Wellcome Trust. In collaboration with the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS), MLW would like to engage the services of a competent and dynamic individual to work in an exciting Research Programme at the MLW Research facility as it is expanding.

Job Summary          

To drive core vehicles for errand or taxi purposes as authorized by the Assistant Facilities Manager, ensuring passenger and vehicle safety at all times.  To maintain vehicles in good condition and keep accurate records of usage through log book.

Position overview

Reporting to the Head Driver, the incumbent will be responsible for transport needs of project staff, equipment, and supplies.

Responsibilities

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Facilitating staff transportation
  • To fill in the log sheets daily basis.
  • To record all journeys carefully and all fuel purchased, to include purchase price, litres purchased and amount.
  • To report any problems immediately to the Senior Driver.
  • Cleans the vehicles daily to ensure they are in good condition.
  • Checks oils, lubricants, water, tyre pressure; lights, wipers and any other parts that need checking before starting the vehicle off on daily basis to ensure the vehicles are road worthy.
  • Identify and timely report faults or worn-out parts and timely reports to supervisor for procuring of parts for repairs.
  • Updates logbook by indicating the date, mileage, fuel, destination where the vehicle is going and makes sure that the authorizing officer signs before the vehicle leaves.

Health and safety

  • Checking all risk areas of vehicles before driving i.e., tyre pressure, all engine bolts are tight, oil levels and lights.
  • Making sure that checklist is checked and submitted to senior driver on a weekly basis.
  • Identifying and reporting all risk areas for all MLW vehicles which may bring accidents even if the vehicle is driven by another driver.

 

Requirements

Required qualifications and experience.

  • Clean and valid driving license
  • Malawi School Certificate of Education
  • Valid Professional driver’s license
  • At least 3 years working experience.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Defensive driving skills
  • Time management
  • Flexible and willing to work at old hours.
  • Able to work flexibly.
  • Self-motivated and able to deliver results and work out of hours when required to complete tasks.
  • Excellent communications skills.
