The Malawi Accelerated Research in Vaccines by Experimental and Laboratory System (MARVELS) research group hosted its first-ever research symposium which showcased its clinical experimental medicine work on 21 February 2023.
Commenting on the symposium, a researcher from the team Anthony Chirwa said being the first MARVELS symposium, there was a significant turn-up.
“The symposium enhanced discussion amongst researchers from different studies within MLW. This symposium was a success, and as a group, we are thankful for everyone who attended and shared their insights,” Chirwa added.
The meeting began with poster presentations by researchers from the group who provided an update on their studies.
Later, over 11 researchers from the group presented their exceptional work encompassing The Human Challenge Model in Malawi. MARVELS also shared their background, progress, and plans with the attendees.
MARVELS is a group under The Clinical Experimental Medicine Theme that focuses on Human Challenges studies. MARVELS exists to advance understanding of disease pathogenesis, use the model as a proof-of-concept, test vaccines, and facilitate vaccine development.
