On 12 November 2021, MLW’s Health & Safety Department organised health checks for blood pressure, blood sugar, and Body Mass Index (BMI).
According to Occupational Nurse Stephen Amos, raised blood pressure, being overweight or obese, and hyperglycemia (high blood glucose levels) are among the key risk factors to the development of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as heart attack, stroke, cancer, and diabetes. The screening exercise was therefore aimed at assessing these risk factors, spotting any warning signs, and supporting staff through individualised preventive advice and referral where necessary.
